Sophie Reverdi: Conceptor
My name is Sophie Reverdi. I am 41 years old, and I am an ex-obese. I started growing fat at the age of five and I became obese. At that time, obesity was a rare disease. I felt so lonely and so ashamed of my situation. In my childhood, I spent all the holidays in specialized treatment centers such as Vichy and Brides-les-Bains. I was hospitalized in various Parisian establishments and I equally spent long stays in the Summer Camps of Weight Watchers in USA.
I was always suffering, always deprived. I was a recluse forced to perform exhausting exercises without taking notice that my heart was already being sorely tested because of my overweight. I was forced to enjoy only twice a day a lemon-flavored salad, 50 grams/ 2ounces of tasteless meat, and two sticks of celery. I shouldn’t expect to have more. In spite of these sacrifices, there was no significant result. My self-esteem did not improve and at the age of 20 years, I weighed 128 kilograms/ 256 pounds. Alarmed by my weight, Doctor Albert-François Creff, the father of the nutrition in France, told me of a new operation practiced in the United States by Doctor Edward Mason, the designer of intestinal gastroplasty. After two months of bitter debates with my family, who did not want to hear about the operation, I could finally go to Iowa City in order to be operated. The result was that I lost 70 kilograms/ 140 pounds in a year and a half.
10 years later, pregnant with twins, I picked up 40 kilos/ 80 pounds which, despite the ring of gastroplasty, took me five long years to lose trying different types of unsuccessful diets. It was only after discovering Dr. Albert Chocron hyperproteinemy diet that I could get rid of them. I’ve always wanted to share my experience with those who suffer from obesity.
I also want to help them find solutions that are adaptable to each of their peculiar personalities. Gastroplasty is a possible solution but it cannot be recommended to all who suffer from obesity. 22 years ago, I must have persuaded and argued with Edward Mason that I was an ideal candidate. He was not convinced and I proved to him thereafter that I was right. The ring that was installed in my body 22 years ago did not prevent me when I was pregnant from taking on 40 kilos/80 pounds. It even did not help me to lose them. Nowadays, gastroplasty is practiced without any prior research to fit the mental characteristics of the patients to the beneficial effects of the surgery. Indeed, the success rate remains low 5% total success.
I specialized in hospital management in a Swiss high school in order to get close to the medical field and to achieve my ambition: accompany people in their battle against the surplus of kilograms/pounds. I worked then at the American Hospital of Paris, at the Dietary service, and I understood, that the solution resides in nutritional equilibrium and especially in understanding the metabolic process of alimentation.
It is then that the idea of Smart and Light was born. To succeed in making people who suffer from overweight understand how their bodies functioned, what was exactly their disease, but also to tell them that they could enjoy eating, without restrictions, without necessarily being hungry, and without the need for immoderate physical constraints (sports).
Most of all, to find the means to help them rebuild their self-confidence, to make them restore their dignity, to prove to them that they will find enough strength in them to succeed in making the necessary efforts during a determined period of time.
Having enriched my knowledge thanks to these various experiences and studies, and having found that Dr Albert Chocron’s diet was best suited to an obese person’s personality, I decided to devote myself to coach people suffering from overweight and to involve myself in the logbook and Smart and Light project. It is with all my heart and with all my energy and faith that I offer to accompany you through this logbook in your transformation journey. It is because I know your pains and also your possibilities, since they resemble mine, that I commit myself to tell you this:
You deserve success…Your success is my reward to
you,
but it also depends on Your responsibility.![]()
I think I shall bring you, thanks to my past experiences and my researches in this domain, a key and inevitable method that will help you slim down. The method is delivered in this logbook, but you need to fix your objectives beforehand. I will explain it to you but you must necessarily get down to it. This is the first crucial step. My goal is also to give you a sense of responsibility during this process. It is only when you feel you are concerned by this transformation mission that you will excel at it. My method is an end to « all your years of misery »; you should not hide anymore. It is not our kilograms/pounds of surplus that are responsible for everything. We are responsible for not knowing how to eat. We are responsible because we don’t love each other enough. We are responsible for not allowing ourselves to enjoy a balanced and healthy life. We are responsible for this terrestrial vehicle that we were entrusted in and which requires proper maintenance and a lot of respect in order to function harmoniously. We are responsible for our health and for our happiness.
